Book Review: Rick and Bubba's Big Honkin Book of Grub

Rick and Bubba's Big Honkin' Book of Grub
I picked this to review simply because the name made me laugh. I had no idea who Rick and Bubba are or why I should read their book. I just liked the title!

Oh my...this book made me laugh so hard I cried. Literally. And snorted. I kept running to my husband saying “you gotta hear this”...until he reminded me that he was going to read it too and didn’t want it spoiled for him.

Literally every page is filled with humor and a sweetness of spirit that makes this a unique read. Best quote ever: “The goal of our diet isn’t to get you to be skinny. Our goal is to get you to a level of fat that you can tolerate.”

You gotta read this. More than once. Share it with your friends.

I am a member of Book Sneeze’s Blogger program. I received no monetary compensation for my opinions. A copy of the book was provided for me to read, in exchange for my honest opinions of the book. Go here to learn more about the program: http://booksneeze.com.

Just Sayin...

I really...really...REALLY...wish I lived in a town with more shopping choices. I'd love a Kroger. I'd tolerate a Brookshire's. I'd do okay with a Tom Thumb. I'd come just short of drooling for a Toys or Babies R Us. I'd be dangerous with a Target...

New Twilight Book!

Book Review: Christlike by Bill Hull

Christlike: The Pursuit of Uncomplicated Obedience
Christlike, by Bill Hull

I picked this book from NavPress to review because the description “this simplicity is the key to effectiveness in the larger mission of changing the world for Christ” and the tag line “To make a difference, you have to be different” sounded like what I was looking for in a quest to learn more about being closer to God in both my personal and church life.

The concepts presented are not difficult, yet the author presents them in a quite complicated way. I plodded through the book and did not find that “spark of insight” I was looking for. I felt like it was overly-academic and complicated and I really had a hard time reading this book.

O come from a Religious Education background, and I was lost for the majority of the book. I found myself re-reading and re-reading trying to make sense of the way the book was written. Make no mistake, the concepts presented for growing closer to God are sound. I just had trouble with the style of writing.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from NavPress Publishers as part of their Blogger Review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Celebrate Express Clearance Finds!

I got an email from Celebrate Express with information about a big clearance sale! I went to check it out and found that you can find many things in the clearance and use the code 50clear for an additional 50% off the clearance items! That make some items 90% off! You better believe I'm looking for the boys!

If you're a baseball fan, there are team logo cups for $0.79 for a 16 oz. cup as well as plates and napkins, under the birthday supplies, male.

Mahatma Rice Riceipe Club

So, my Mahatma Rce Bzz Campaign is going well. Well, sort of. I have yet to make something edible with it. I don't know why I just can't cook rice. This shouldn't be this hard!

Anyway, I just joined the Mahatma Riceipe Club and was looking around their site for more ideas. I gotta tell you, even if I mess it up, the Lemony Chicken and Jasmine Rice with Spinach and Artichokes recipe sounds divine! I'm also going to try a Coconut Lime Rice Pudding.

The cool part of the Club is that you can "save" recipes to a virtual recipe box. That will make it A LOT easier to find a recipe again! You can also sign up to receive special offers and try to be selected as an in-home tester!

I was provided with rice, recipes and coupons from Mahatma through BzzAgent. Opinions and information are truthful and my own.

Giveaway I've Entered

Okay, you all know I had a baby in December. So, I guess it's no surprise I've entered a giveaway to win a copy of How to Never Look Fat Again on A Mom's Balancing Act! I really want this book. I've never known how to dress my body since the kiddos changed it. Hopefully this will help. Go over and enter too! She's giving away 3 copies. Let me know if you win!

Book Review - Jane Austen, Christian Encounters Series

How funny that this book was available the day I watched The Jane Austen Book Club and had decided that I would re-read the Austen novels! I became a huge fan of Austen during college. I caught a glimpse of her world while watching the BBC (Colin Firth) version of Pride and Prejudice and have been a fan ever since. I have read every one of her novels and have seen almost all the movie adaptations. And yet, I know very little about her life. That’s the reason I decided to read this book.

Through this book, I’ve come to appreciate Austen in a more profound way. I knew that she was the daughter of a minister, but for some reason I never thought about the Christianity in her books. I never thought about her social background. I never gave much thought to the woman behind the books. I enjoyed learning about her and through this book have learned a new appreciation for her works. Now I just have to decide which to re-read first...

I am a member of Book Sneeze’s Blogger program. I received no monetary compensation for my opinions. A copy of the book was provided for me to read, in exchange for my honest opinions of the book. Go here to learn more about the program.

This book can be purchased from Amazon for $8.64 by clicking here.

Survey Sites Paid off Today!

After getting the email from Babies R Us, I did some quick checking and realized that the 20% off coupon was going to make a stroller extremely affordable So, the hubs and I took off at break-neck speed to the nearest store (an hour away!). I took all my Christmas cash and my coupon and bought a beautiful new stroller for the baby! Plus we got a few things that we needed for feeding (faster flow and better sippies) and a pack of Thomas the Train underwear (maybe he won't poo on Thomas...) and still came home with some cash!

I know, I'd told you I was saving Amazon credit for a stroller. So, why the change in plan? Well, 20% off of course! I was able to get a nicer stroller for less! Just in time for a vacation! I'll save up Amazon for Christmas (and New Moon). That account is up to $95 and I have $30 in pending codes. Plus, I figure it's a lot harder for me to spend that since I really have to think about it!

The best part? All this came from other people paying for my opinion and searching the net!

Click here to see my list of sites I've been using.

Toys R Us Specials

I just got an email from Toys R Us with special deals that are good IN STORE today and tomorrow only!

From Babies R Us, there are coupons for $10 off any 2 value boxes of Huggies.

FREE Dave Ramsey Workshop

Go HERE to sign up for a free Financial Peace University workshop, to be hosted the week of April 5th-12th.

Here's info from the site:

"This lesson is totally free—no strings attached! It’s our gift to your community during this tough economy. The lesson will consist of Dave teaching his steps to get out of debt, build wealth, and save for the future. These principles apply to everyone—whether wealthy or struggling in debt.
We expect seats to fill up quickly, so we are still adding host locations to make sure everyone can find a class to attend. The free lessons will be held the week of April 5th - 12th. After registration, we will send you an email with a list of locations hosting the free lesson in your area. Then, you can choose where you would like to attend!"

Looks like they're going to see what areas want this, then set up an event accordingly.

Recommended Survey Site

If you enjoy participating in survey research and helping companies better understand how to improve their products and services, you have to check out Opinion Outpost! I don't get a lot of surveys from them, and of course, I don't qualify for all of them, but the pay out is great!

Here's a shot of my account details:
All of that has been adding up into my Amazon account, toward the stroller. Now, obviously you aren't going to get rich, but it does add up! It's worth a shot, and every penny counts! Go HERE to sign up!

Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 12-Quart Stockpot with Lid
If you don't like hard-anodized, their Stainless Steel 13-pc. set is regularly $820 and is on sale for $400...but that's way beyond my Amazon credits...
