Book Review: Plain Pursuit

When I selected this book from the Book Sneeze website (formerly Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers), I was skeptical. I’ve never read anything in the hugely popular Amish fiction genre. Honestly, I thought it was “hokey” and that I wouldn’t enjoy it at all.

Oh boy, was I wrong. Beth Wiseman is a wonderful story-teller. I found myself unable to put the book down! Yes, it’s predictable, but it’s still a good read. Some of the feelings and attitudes shown by Carley are ones that are universal: doubt, unworthiness, guilt. She deals with them in ways in which most women can relate.

The descriptions of the land and life of the Amish is refreshing anf accurate, without any of the condemnation of their practices I’ve seen in other books and stories. It’s not likely that I’ll pick another Amish fiction book, but I did enjoy this one.

I am a member of Book Sneeze’s Blogger program. I received no monetary compensation for my opinions. A copy of the book was provided for me to read, in exchange for my honest opinions of the book. Go here to learn more about the program: http://booksneeze.com/
